Types of Abortions

Learn more about medication abortions (the abortion pill) and in-clinic abortion procedures

Medication abortion - the abortion pill

A medication abortion, the abortion pill, is two drugs taken in separate doses (one at the clinic and one at home.) It is usually taken between 4-6 weeks, but it is FDA-approved up to 10-11 weeks after a woman's last menstrual period (LMP).

If you are considering a medication abortion or ordering the abortion pill online, contact us to learn more about how it works, side effects, and what options are available to you in California.

In-Clinic Abortions:

suction abortion

A suction abortion procedure or vacuum aspiration abortion, can be performed up to 14-16 weeks after a woman's LMP. It is the most common early surgical abortion method and it is an outpatient procedure.

If you are still in your first trimester, contact us to learn more about how the procedure works and what options are available to you.

Dilation and evacuation

A D&E abortion is typically performed 13 weeks or more after a woman's last known period (LMP), and is combined with suction abortion. It is the most common second-trimester surgical abortion method. Local anesthesia or sedation is commonly utilized.

If you are in your second trimester and considering abortion, contact us to learn more about in-clinic abortion procedures and what options are available to you.
